The entire stretch of Scheme Road in Race Course has come alive with creativity and colors with the launch of the highly anticipated Art Street of Coimbatore Vizha.
Art Street is an open-air mega art exhibition that celebrates artistic talents in the city & beyond. It was first introduced in the 10th edition of Coimbatore Vizha as platform for artists from Coimbatore and other neighboring regions to showcase their creative talents through art.
Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Padi IAS, inaugurated the two-day exhibition on Saturday in the presence of R.Sundar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust; Arun Senthilnathan, Chair, Saumya Gayathri and Saritha Lakshmi, Co-Chairs, Coimbatore Vizha 2024.
Held under the theme ‘Sustainability’, Art Street this year features 100+ artists who have exhibited Sand art, devotional and mythology portraits, vivid paintings of various styles including handmade reverse glass painting, Kerala murals, meticulous monochrome sketches, creative art designs and installations, etc.
These works have started attracting the city folks to Race Course in huge number. A huge Elephant installation made using hundreds of plastic bottles excited every one. The life-sized art work instantly became an attraction of the art fest.
Sruthi from Coimbatore Vizha said that this event shared that a large-scale art competition was held ahead of Art Street on the theme ‘Coimbatore in 2030’ to throw spotlight on young talents and their vision for Coimbatore. 400+ students belonging to 133 government-run schools participated in this competition.
The top 3 winners received the prize and certificates from Coimbatore Collector at the event, while the top 100 art works of students have been exhibited at this 2-day extravaganza.
