Body of soldier working in Army Centre in Pune, was buried with military honour on Friday at a graveyard in his native town of Karamadai, 35 Kms from here.

 

The 48-year old Michael Samy was transferred from Pune to the Gorkha Rifles in Sikkim in November last and visited his native and spent time with his family 20 days and returned to Sikkim a week ago, official sources said.

Since he was on security work at 17,000 foot peak covered with heavy snow, he collapsed as he was unable to resist the biting cold on Wednesday and died after admision in military hospital there.

 

He is survived by his wife Anita Josi and daughter Monica. His mortail remains were brought to Coimbatore by flight late last night and was received by the District Collector, G.S.Sameeran.

 

After paying a floral tribute, the body was taken in a military vehicle to Karamadai.

 

The body of Michael Samy was taken in procession from his residence to the R.C. Graveyard, where it was interred with full military honour by firing 21 gunshots.

 

Senior District officials including DRO Leela Alex, former Gorkha Regiment Commanding officer, Col Lalith Jain and AIADMK MLA A.K. Selvaraj paid their last respect to the departed soul.
