Hindu Munnani on Friday expressed serious objection on the decision taken by Tamil Nadu on announcing September 17 as Vinayagar Chathurthi and declared holiday, instead of September original 18 thus hurting the sentiments of Hindus.

According to almanac, the Chathurti should be celebrated on September 18 and holiday given on that day only, instead the government unilaterlluy decided without consulting senior priests, spiritual heads and heads of various mutts, Munnani State president, Kadeshwara Subramaniam said in a statement here.

All the Hindu festivals are celebrated based on the movement of planets, Sun and Moon and Navarathri, Kanda Shashti and Vinayagar Chathurthi are celebrated based in Chandra (moon), he said.

Considering the sentiments of Hindus, the government should announce September 18 as Vinayagar Chathurthi and declare holiday on that day, Subramaniam said.
