Following the instructions from Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs - Government of India, Officials at the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) are in plans to resubmit the Detail Project Report (DPR) for the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project along with the required mandatory documents in a week or two to get the nod from Centre to execute the project and also secure financial assistance for the same.

The DPR for Coimbatore Metro Rail project was first submitted to the Union Government in July 2023 but it was resent to the State Government after it was found by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs that the DPR did not contain 2 crucial reports - the Comprehensive Mobility Plan and Alternative Analysis Report.

As per Metro Rail Policy 2017, when a city is seeking approval from Centre for the Metro Rail Projects it must included the comprehensive mobility plan and alternative analysis report.

CMRL clarified that the 2 reports said to be missing from the DPR are included in the Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) submitted to the Tamil Nadu govt in February 2023. However, since they were not included in the DPR when it was submitted to the Union Government, the report was sent back to the State.

MLA from Coimbatore South Constituency, Vanathi Srinivasan urged TN Chief Minister Stalin during his recent visit to Coimbatore to take quick measures in this matter and include the required documents in the DPR and resend it to Centre so that this project that could significantly benefit Coimbatore could be executed at the earliest.

CMRL officials have now said that the key documents that were requested by the Centre have been verified, and in a week or two, they will be attached with the DPR and will be submitted to the Union Government via the TN Government.

The officials also expressed that since both the State and Central Government are keen to execute this project, there won't be any delay in getting the needed financial assistance for this project.
