Heavy security blanket has been thrown in the district, with the deployment nearly 4,000 police personnel, including Rapid
Action Force and Tamil Nadu Special Police, in the wake of hurling of petroleum products bomb on BJP and Hindu Munnani members following the raids and arrest of PFI functionary on Thursday here.


A total of nine incidents of hurling petrol, diesel and kerosene filled bottle, plastic covers were reported in the district and damaging three cars and two autocickshaws in the aftermath of the NIA raids.


It was also reported that an SDPI functionary, Zafrullah was waylaid and attacked, when he was returning home on Friday afternoon, police said.


Unidentified persons hurled petrol bomb outside the BJP office on VKK Menon Road and a textile shop in Oppanakara Street, even as three persons were taken for interrogating, they said. 

A car and two autorickshaws belonging to a BJP member and a Hindu Munnani leader respectively damaged in Pollachi on Thursday night and another car damaged owned by BJP member was also damaged on Friday morning, with police registering separate cases. 


A petrol bomb was hurled at plywood shops on Mettupalayam Road, while another petrol bomb was hurled at the shop of a BJP cadre near Gandhipuram on Friday morning and a car belonging to Hindu Munnani functionary  Thiyagu was set on fire in Kuniyamuthur on Friday evening.Similarly, a kerosene-filled bottle was thrown on the premises of the house of RSS senior administrator in Kovaipudur late Friday night.


Considering the incidents security was beefed up in the city from Friday by deploying four companies of Tamil Nadu Special Police (TSP), each of 100 personnel, and two companies of RAF. The situation was monitored by Additional DGP (L and O) Thamaraikannan along with West Zone IG, R Sudhakar.
