A old pregnant woman, who was shifted to a private hospital from the Government Hospital in Annur in the district, due to a power outage during the delivery process, died in the early hours of today.

The 22-year-old Vanmati of Oothupalayam near Annur, 35 kms from here, was admitted the Government hospital on September 9.

The power went off around 10 AM when the doctors were performing C-section on the woman on September 21. Non-functioning of the generator led to complications, forcing the doctors to shift her to a nearby private hospital.

The woman gave birth to a baby boy, even as her condition deteriorated and was admitted to another private hospital in nearby Kovilpalayam, police said. However, she breathed her last at 6.30 AM today.

A probe is ordered into the incident, which will reveal the actual cause of death, even as there was a report that Vanmathi developed multiple seizures during the procedure. The relatives blamed the power cut at the Government hospital and
generator and also treated at the private hospital for the death and sought action against the erring doctors and officials, police said.
