Fly Dubai, the Emirati government-owned low-cost airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates operates about 30 flights a week in India. It flies to about 8 cities in India but Coimbatore is yet to get a flight connectivity to Dubai through it.
The city has been yearning for that connectivity for a long time now, and if certain developments take place, that dream can become a reality.
"We are very keen to have more flights to operate to Coimbatore. We would like Coimbatore to be added as a point of call. I would like to request the honorable Minister of Tourism and the distinguished people here to support our request with Ministry of Civil Aviation to add more capacity to India. Should we get that, we are happy to consider operating at least a daily service connecting Coimbatore with Dubai and beyond," said Pran Sathiadasan, VP Commercial Operations, Indian Subcontinent - Fly Dubai. He was speaking at the Luxury Travel Show held in Coimbatore on Saturday that was inaugurated by the TN Minister of Tourism, Ramachandran in the presence of Coimbatore Airport Director Senthil Valavan, Passport Officer - Regional Passport Office Coimbatore and many other guests.
Pran opined that India's secondary cities are really where the big growth story is, and Coimbatore is one of the leading cities in that category which really deserves much more international flights than it already has.
Senthil Valavan while addressing the gathering said that Coimbatore Airport is getting into expansion mode and the airport is soon going to take off with expansion. As of late, it has added 2 additional foreign connectivity.
He shared that Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi is bringing up a beautiful cricket stadium infrastructure in Coimbatore and is going to bring sports tourism to Coimbatore.
