Road accidents are claiming more lives than we could possibly imagine. 480 people die in India everyday due to road accidents, according to Manuneethi, Divisional Engineer, State Highways Department (Road Safety).

In the last 6 months, 147 persons died due to road accidents in Coimbatore city. Between the 1st and 26th of June, 27 persons died because of the same cause, and the cops have arrested 5 persons who caused these accidents, as per reports.

Poor roads, careless driving, over-speeding, driving under influence, allowing under-age persons to drive all are reasons behind these incidents.

To prevent such unnecessary loss of lives, the police are taking action against those who violate traffic rules and regulations by slapping fine; arresting those who cause road accidents; filing cases against those who drive under influence of alcohol/drugs and cause accidents, and if the vehicle involved in the accident was borrowed, the owner of the vehicle could also face legal action.

The police department has urged parents not to encourage their sons/daughters drive vehicles if they are under 18 or without a valid driving license. As elderly persons who could not drive vehicles effectively like they used to, get involved in accidents, the police have advised their families to suggest them to travel by bus or auto instead.
