Coimbatore South Constituency MLA Vanathi Srinivasan met the press and media on Monday after launching a program in a private educational institution in Mettupalayam road.

During the interaction with the reporters, Vanathi opined that the Coimbatore Corporation has failed to ensure that public amenities and spaces such as toilets and parks are properly maintained.

"I have been repeatedly talking about the various public issues in the city; be it matters related to maintenance of roads, removal of garbage and adequate supply of drinking water. We are trying to take this to the corporation's notice but when they do not listen, we have no option but to tell the people that the corporation is abusing its power," she said.

"If I say that it is not giving such quality maintenance, it may be taken as a criticism from an opposition party MLA but if you ask all the residents of Coimbatore, even they will say that the maintenance service given by corporation is not up to mark, specifically on its maintenance of public toilets and removal garbage in public," Vanathi said.

Speaking further, she said that she had sponsored the development of a public park in Coimbatore South Constituency through her MLA funds, and she spent huge amounts on a badminton court there for the public. Upon visiting the park a few days later, she found it in a pathetic condition.

"When I asked the reason behind it, I was told that the contractor who won the tender to maintain it, did not work at all. This is the condition of various parks in Coimbatore city," Vanathi said.

She urged the Corporation to give proper maintenance to public amenities.
