The 3rd Edition of the ISR (Individual Social Responsibility) Marathon organized by Chandrans Yuva Foundation (CYF) was held on Sunday (21.8.2022) at VOC Grounds.

More than 11000+ people including differently-abled persons took part in this event. The total distance of the marathon was 10kms.

The Differently-abled people who ran the marathon had assistance from volunteers arranged by CYF. While the marathon is 10 km, differently-abled people were given the choice to complete it at the 1-kilometer mark as per their convenience.

Manimekalai Mohan, Founder and Managing Trustee, SSVM Institutions, Celebrity Chef Dhamu, MJF.S.Ramkumar, District Governor of Lions International, C.Sivanesan, Founder, Shashikala Sathiyamurthy, Co-Founder, Chandrans Yuva Foundation, Srisha Nitin, Director of Education, SSVM Institutions flagged off the marathon.

The focus of this event is to bring to the attention of the public about the huge number of differently-abled people living among us, and emphasize that all of us need to come together to help them attain their real potential.

"We launched this marathon in 2018 and at the end of the event, we provided support to 250 beneficiaries in the first year by providing them wheelchairs, tricycles etc. In 2019 we supported 500 beneficiaries.  Due to COVID, we did not conduct the marathon. This year we are going to help 1000 people including the differently-abled, visually challenged, transgenders, widowed women, rural women, single parents," said Shashikala Sathiyamurthy, Co-Founder, Chandrans Yuva Foundation.

Taking note of the poor financial condition of differently-abled people and also the transgenders, widowed women, visually challenged people, single mothers and rural women; Chandrans Yuva Foundation (CYF) has taken steps to provide free skill development training to them and also get them employed or help them set and run their own small business.

So far CYF has given skill development training and facilitated jobs to 1248 individuals, she added.

Spectacles for the visually challenged, hearing aids for the deaf, wheel-chairs, tricycles, walkers for the disabled, free Sewing Machines to the women (widowed and rural) trained in Stitching were provided following the marathon with the phenomenal support of globally acclaimed service organization Lions International and also generous contributors like PMS Society, SSVM Institutions, Ladies Circle, Martin's Charitable Trust, Rotary Texcity and individuals.
