Gem Hospital, Coimbatore in association with The Association of Surgeons of India provided free laparoscopic surgery to 4 patients suffering either from Colon Cancer or esophageal cancer (in stages 1&2 ) at the Free Lap Surgical Camp & Workshop in Minimal Access Oncology held at the hospital on Sunday under the guidance of Dr.C.Palanivelu, Chairman, Gem Hospital. 

85 onco-surgeons are getting benefitted through this camp, a spokesperson said.  

Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ponmudi, Dr.Nirmala, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College& Hospital, Dr.Siddesh, President of ASI, Dr.Govindaraj, President, ASI- Tamil Nadu, members of ASI, Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis took part in the formal event.

Speaking at the event, Dr.C.Palanivelu said that GEM Hospital with the support of Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis has done 82 cancer operations in 4 years free of cost.

He went on to say that GEM Hospital will offer world class cancer care free of cost to the poor people who suffer from Stage 1, Stage 2 cancers, provided they come with adequate reference.

He shared that GEM Hospital continuously involves in creating awareness about cancer, offers Medical Training to young surgeons to improve their knowledge and skill, and also conducts Free Cancer Surgery Projects in association with Rotary International Foundation through Rotary Metropolis.

Minister Ponmudi, in his address said the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu considers Education and Healthcare of the people as his two eyes, and the Government that has the Dravidian Model ideology is keen to provide this care to all, especially the underprivileged.

He said Dr.Palanivelu has the same vision, and has come forward to offer free cancer care to poor people, free of cost. He appreciated GEM and Rotary for this laudable effort.
