Students who have successfully completed their 12th grade board exams, and are in need of financial assistance to pursue higher education (UG/PG) can apply for educational loans from leading banks in the country easily via 2 government portals; Jansamarth and Vidyalakshmi.

Qualified students can get upto Rs.4 lakhs as loan from banks without providing any security. But loan level higher than this will require securities.

Vidyalakshmi portal was launched in 2015 by the finance ministry of India to provide single window access for students to apply for education loans and government scholarships.

Jansamarth portal was launched in 2022 by Union Govt. Loan applicants can initially access 13 schemes including educational loans offered by leading banks through a single platform. This portal has 1 scheme under edu.loans that benefits all categories of economically weaker students for pursuing professional/technical courses in India and intends to provide affordable higher education.

Students need to first keep the digital copies of Aadhaar card, PAN card, Counselling letter, Parents' Income Certificate, Fee Structure details of the college and parents Aadhaar and PAN card, ready for uploading.

They can then log in to any one of this portal and start applying for the loan from the leading banks near them and provide all the necessary details. They can pick this bank even if they don't have an account in it but must start one after applying.
