Not many would know that there is a strong connection between Coimbatore and Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi.  

 

He stayed in a house in Singanallur between 1945 and 1947, and wrote dialogues for many movies. 

It was a tiled roof house near Aravanmedai, Singanallur that belonged to his friend Annasamy. Kalaignar paid ₹10 as rent and is said to have lived here with his first wife Padmavathy. 

 

It was from here that he wrote dialogues for the movie Rajakumari his first collaboration with then rising actor who would go on to become a legendary star, MGR.

 

He also wrote dialogues for the plays Kallarai, Vidhavai Kaneer etc. 

 

People who have seen Kalaignar say that he would walk till Kulakkarai in Singanallur, and sit under the trees to write dialogues.
