A remarkable drone-shot clicked by a young talent  from Coimbatore at Anamalai Tiger Reserve won the first prize in a category at this year's DJ Memorial Photography Contest (DJMPC), a premier photography event that recognises talents on a global level.

The Winners of the 12th Edition of DJMPC were announced on Sunday and they were felicitated by Chairman and Managing Director of Lakshmi Machine Works (LMW), Coimbatore Mr.Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu at the DJMPC 23 Award Ceremony held at Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery.

DJMPC is organized by LMW and held annualy since 2012 in the memory of its past Chairman and Managing Director Dr.D.Jayavarthanavelu who had an immense love towards photography. 

Since its inception, DJMPC is held as a free-to-enter international photography contest, and it is seen as a valuable platform for talented photographers from across the world to convey the remarkable stories they witnessed through their pictures. The cash rewards given at the event are also one of the highest for such contests.

 

This year's competition was declared open on May 1, 2023. The themes for this year's edition was 'Creative Nature & Naturescapes'. 

 

The enteries were welcomed till the last date June 30, 2023. DJMPC 2023 received 5116 entries from 936 participants belonging to 26 different countries. 

 

They were evaluated by the Jury panel comprising of elite photographers Lalith Ekanayake from Sri Lanka, Anish Andheria from Mumbai amd Sachin Rai from Bengaluru along with the mentor of DJMPC Maruthachalam.

"We had very high quality images this year. Every image had a story to tell and the jury has a tough time making the final selection," the Event Administrator and Curator of DJMPC Vikram Sathyanathan said.

It was announced at the award ceremony that Ashok Nair's photo titled 'Attention' captured at Vauldalen, Norway had won the first prize under 'Creative Nature' category. 

 

Coimbatore's very own photographer KA Dhanuparan's photo titled 'Leopard Scouting Its Territory' shot at Anamalai Tiger Reserve won the first prize under Creative Naturescapes. 

LMW's Chairman Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu honored the winners, runners-up and the Certificate of Merit holders who were present at the event.

 

All the finest photos of this year's competition will be there at Kasthuri Srinivasan Cultural Centre for public's viewing pleasure from today till August 5th 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kasthuri Sreenivasan Art Gallery.
