Kumaraguru Institutions, under its Climate Smart Dairy Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Development Project in March 2024 launched the Dairy Yatra, a transformative learning expedition on 14th of April, 2025.

Over 40 dairy entrepreneurs traveled across 5 states—Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan—covering more than 6,000 kms to explore leading innovations in dairy farming.

The Yatra included curated visits to 15 premier dairy farms, innovation hubs, and research institutions, offering over 150 hours of immersive, real-world learning. Upon their return to Coimbatore, the dairy entrepreneurs shared their experience during a session held at Kumaraguru City Center in Race Course.

They shared their learning at various places including their visit to Akshayakalpa Organic Farms, Karnataka; Gokul Dairy, Kolhapur, Maharashtra; Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Dairy at Baramati; Maharashtra; Prabhat, Shrirampur, Maharashtra; National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Anand, Gujarat, etc.

One explorer shared about their field visit to Govind Dairy-supported farms.

“The visit showcased smart dairy practices by Mrs.Manisha and Mr. Vijay. Mrs. Manisha manages 35 cows (25 lactating) producing 450 litres daily, using AI with high-quality semen, TMR feeding, pit silage, and hydroponic fodder for efficient, record-based management. Mr. Vijay, with 20+ years’ experience, employs Embryo Transfer (50% success), maintains genetic records, and involves his sons—Govind Dairy Animal Inspectors—in farm operations, reflecting strong technical adoption and family-led entrepreneurship,” he said.

Another entrepreneur shared about the party’s visit to the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Anand, Gujarat, where they learned about the transformative legacy of AMUL and Dr. Verghese Kurien, the architect of India’s White Revolution. “Through sessions curated by Mr. Sandeep and Mrs. Vijayalakshmi, we explored the power of the cooperative model in empowering rural communities and promoting equitable, sustainable growth.”

Through Dairy Yatra, the entrepreneurs had seen the possibilities including clean milk, circular economies, gender equity, digital traceability, democratic cooperatives.
