Kumaraguru Institutions is organizing a two-day International Symposium on ‘One Health’ between 15th and 16th of October in the city.

One Health is an integrated, unifying approach to balance and optimize the health of people, animals and the environment.  It aims to bring together different sectors, disciplines, and communities to prevent, predict, detect, and respond to global health threats and diseases that spread between animals and humans.

Shankar Vanavarayar, President of Kumaraguru Institutions presided over the event. Professor Daniel Chamovitz, President of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel took part in the inaugural as the Chief Guest.

Prof.Vijila Edwin Kennedy, Director, Global Engagement, Kumaraguru Institutions welcomed the students, international speakers and other eminent speakers from the industry, NGOs and from the government.

The distinguished speakers list included international experts from Israel, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Belgium, alongside eminent Indian scientists and practitioners from prestigious bodies like the KMCH Research Foundation, TANUVAS, Care Health, Malla Reddy University, Arulagam, and the Keystone Foundation. Prof.Vijila conveyed that the event will have 8 panel discussions, 7 master classes and 2 workshops.

Shankar Vanavarayar, President of Kumaraguru Institutions in his presidential address opined that 'One Health' represents a collaborative, multi sectorial, transdisciplinary approach where local, national and global levels have to work together.

India has native wisdom, India is working on modern knowledge but India needs future solutions because we are a billion people. Not only billion people, but we are a home to one of the most ordinary diversity of plants and animals and insects and so much more," he said.

Addressing the audience, especially the young students, he said that one health is certainly for their future. The health of the future depends on how you redefine it, how you discover it, how you research it, how you work on solutions for it, he said. 

Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Prof. Daniel Chamovitz, President of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel shared that in these 2 days, the discussion will be on multiple subjects, topics and sectors. He said true Innovation comes out when people of diverse fields (who do not usually meet each other) come together. He just asked the participants to imagine the research outcomes if Israel and India work together. A lot of things could be achieved, he said.

At the sidelines of the inaugural session a MoU was singed between Kumaraguru Institutions and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. This collaboration marks a new chapter in international academic partnership, nurturing research, innovation and knowledge exchange across borders.
