As the water level in Pillur Dam in nearby Mettupalayam reaching 97 feet as against its 100 feet capacity, the administration on Saturday discharged 7,000 cusecs of water to Bhavani River and people on the river banks are advised not to venture into
river or nearby water bodies.

Due to more inflow from Attapadi and Mukkali in Kerala state, the dam is likely to reach its capacity level in a few hours and considering the safety of the dam, surplus water is being discharged through four sluice gates, official sources said.

People living in low-lying areas are asked to move to safer places in anticipation of the discharge of more water from the dam, they said.
