In a span of just one year, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore completed more than 150 robotic surgeries, a remarkable achievement by any standard and establishing itself as a leading center for robotic surgeries in Western Tamil Nadu.
The hospital celebrated its one-year of successful robotic surgical programs on Tuesday. These 150+ robotic surgeries have covered a wide spectrum of specialties and have involved almost all organs currently amenable to robotic intervention-including the esophagus, lungs, thyroid, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon, rectum, kidneys, bladder, prostate, Uterus and Heart.
"Our expert surgical team has performed many first of its kind complex procedures with robot assisted like scarless thyroidectomy, gastrectomy, thymectomy. Robotic surgery has allowed us to offer less invasive, more precise, and faster-recovery procedures, significantly improving patient experience and outcomes," the hospital said in a press release.
At the heart of this transformation is the Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, one of the most advanced robotic platforms in the world. GKNM Hospital is the first to introduce the 4th generation Da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical system in Western Tamil Nadu.
"The Da Vinci Xi robot, which we are privileged to have at GKNM Hospital, offers unmatched capabilities in minimally invasive surgery. Its 3D high-definition vision, tremor filtration, and wristed instruments with 7 degrees of freedom allow surgeons to perform highly complex procedures with extreme precision, even in the most delicate and narrow anatomical areas."
Through the seamless integration of robotic technology and surgical excellence, precision is significantly enhanced, reducing surgical complications, patients experience less bleeding; smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery, Postoperative comfort and satisfaction rates have markedly improved.
Under the combined leadership of renowned specialists, such as Dr. Praveen Ravishankaran, In Charge of the Robotic Surgery Program - expert in colorectal, upper GI, thoracic, gynaecologic, urologic, oncologic and HIPEC procedures; Dr. Arul Raj, HOD of Surgical Oncology Robotic and HIPEC Surgeon; Dr. P. Chandrasekar, Chairman of Cardiothoracic Surgery; Dr. K. S. Vengetesh, Consultant Robotic Urologic Surgeon; Dr. Kamalesh, Chief of Gastrointestinal, HPB & Bariatric Surgery specializing in minimally invasive Gl, liver, pancreas and bariatric therapeutic procedures and Dr. Latha Balasubramani, Consultant Gynaecologic Oncology Surgeon-delivering high-precision gynaecologic cancer surgeries via robotic assistance, GKNM's robotic surgery program continues to set new standards.
