GEM Hospital & Rotary provide free cancer surgery to 70+ needy patients!

From January 2022 to the present, 75 people affected by different cancers and who are also financially weak were provided free cancer surgery by Gem Hospital, Coimbatore and Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis under a scheme called Care for Life.
The total worth of these surgeries is around Rs.2.5 crore, a source said.
A press conference was held on Friday, and Dr.C.Palanivelu, the Chairman of Gem Hospital said that under the Care for Life scheme, advanced cancer care like Robotic Surgery and Laparoscopic surgeries have been rendered to patients with early stages of cancer.
He also said that Gem Hospital has the advantage of modern medical infrastructure and experienced oncologists, the hospital has been able to provide better cures to these patients.
He also cautioned that Cancer cases are increasing in Tamilnadu gradually. He warned that stomach cancer and food pipe cancers are being seen more in men these days.
Gem Hospital is confident to perform another 25 surgeries by the end of December touching the 100 mark, Dr. C. Palanivelu told reporters.
Of the 75 surgeries, 40 are on women mostly suffering from uterus cancer, and others were treated fully with symptoms in esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon, rectum, and kidney, he said.
Dr.Palanivelu said that there was a lack of awareness among the economically weaker sections on the early symptoms and the hospital will carry out an awareness campaign by organizing screening camps periodically.
