A male elephant in the Sirumugai region of Coimbatore, which had been in poor health, is showing signs of recovery. Forest officials and a veterinary team have been monitoring the animal near the Pethikutttai - Kaapukaadu border for the past four days.

The elephant was first noticed to be weak and emaciated, though it had no visible external injuries. Suspecting an internal infection, the medical team devised a plan to administer treatment. They placed a combination of antibiotics, painkillers, and deworming tablets inside fruits like watermelon and bananas. Liver rejuvenation tonics and immunity boosters were placed in food which the tusker is fond of. These medicated fruits and other food were left in the areas where the elephant was known to frequent.

After three days of this regimen, the elephant’s condition showed a marked improvement on the fourth day. It was seen to be more energetic, crossing a pit and entering a banana plantation to feed on its own. This positive development has raised hopes for the tusker's full recovery. The forest department will continue to monitor the elephant closely to ensure its health stabilizes.
