If you are wondering which is the most consumed beverage in the world, then it is not tea or coffee, neither milk nor beer, it is water.

Staying well hydrated is important to good health because losing as little as 1 to 2% of body weight from fluids can impair physical performance and our ability to think. If you are like most people, about 80% of your total fluid intake comes from drinking water and other beverages.

Water covers about 71% of the earth's surface and 97% of it is salty. Only 0.5% of the earth's water is available as fresh water.

Coffee comes Second

While it is known that Coffee cultivation and trade began on the Arabian Peninsula, Coffee grown worldwide can trace its heritage back centuries to the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopian plateau.

Finland is the number one consumer of coffee in the world. Each person drinks, on average, four cups per day. That is just an average, however. The normal coffee drinker drinks between eight and nine cups daily with the more committed coffee lovers drinking up to 30 cups in one day.

The Third place goes to Tea

While there are different varieties of Tea, sources say that Green and black teas are rich in plant compounds called flavonoids. These compounds act as antioxidants to help fight underlying cell damage caused by reactive molecules known as free radicals. High levels of free radicals contribute to heart disease, cancer, and other issues

Specifically, green teas are rich in flavonoids called catechins, while black teas have high amounts of theaflavins. Due to these compounds, drinking green and black tea has been associated with lower blood pressure, anticancer effects, and reduced cholesterol levels in both animal and human studies.

Tea is followed by Beer, Milk, Orange Juice and Soft Drinks..
