Coimbatore Junction and another 75 select Railway Stations across India will receive new passenger holding areas with enhanced amenities and modular design. Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw approved the plan for developing these passenger holding areas at various railway stations across the country, said a press release from PIB.

What is more interesting is that the Union Minister has directed that all holding areas should be completed well before the 2026 festival season so that the rush can be handled at ease.

This decision was taken following the success of the passenger holding area at New Delhi Railway Station. The New Delhi station managed the extremely heavy rush of passengers during Diwali and Chhath with the help of its newly developed holding area, which was completed within four months.

Members of Coimbatore NXT appreciate the Development of Yatri Suvidha Kendra/ holding areas in the 76 busy stations of the country.

Mr.Sathish, a member of Coimbatore NXT said that this indicates the  passengers traffic in the respective railway stations and the dire need to create permanent infrastructure. Southern Railways had acknowledged this requirement at Coimbatore due to the passengers crowd during the festival seasons and as a first step they will create this facility.

"We request Southern Railways to develop Coimbatore North Railway station with additional platforms and train originating/ terminating facilities. Also the early completion of Amrit Bharat Station redevelopment program will help the growth of Coimbatore," he said.
