Confederation of Indian Industry and Kumaraguru Institutions organized a special interactive session for the students of the institution on the theme' Who Would Make India a Developed Nation by 2047?' on Friday.

A.R.Unnikrishnan, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council delivered a special address on the theme and interacted with the students.

He shared that India in 1947 had a population of around 340 million, its GDP $24 billion, its per capita income was $70, literacy rate was 12% and life expectancy around that period was 32 years.

In 2047, (the 100th year of India's Independence), India is poised to be a developed country. Its population is estimated to be around 1.6 billion, its GDP between $15 to 25 trillion, its per capita income $10,000 to 15,000+ , its literacy rate 90% and life expectancy 75-80 years.

With such positive projections and forecasts, he said the skilled students and talents of today are going to be India's game-changers of tomorrow. The next 20-25 years are going to be the golden age for India, and the young generation will script India's growth story.  He then shared his views on various sectors that are important for India's growth and that will have great opportunities.

"If India has to become a developed nation by 2047, manufacturing has to become at least 25% of India's economy, today it is only 12.5%," he remarked. He appreciated Tamil Nadu as its manufacturing sector contributes to 30% of its economy.  He also appreciated the state for having a good ecosystem in lot of sectors including  automotive, building materials, chemicals, cement, electronics, aerospace etc.

Speaking further he said,  Electronics manufacturing will be a big thing in the future. There will be tons of opportunities in this field. What is more interesting is that Electronics Design on the other hand is going to even bigger than electronic manufacturing.  He once again appreciated Tamil Nadu as it is really attracting lot of investment in electronics sector.

A rapid change in EV is expected to come in the future. Some of that will need new developments from startups. So students of today need to usher in that progress for India as founders of start-ups. Funds are available in plenty for ideas that are innovative, he remarked. He also said that there will be big change in energy sector.  You will see progressively more renewable energy being used (solar, wind, even nuclear) and  it will  create a shift and this will open up new opportunities- energy efficiencies is going to become a big sector.

The opportunities will be great in the years ahead but talents have to become collaborative to achieve great progress. More than qualifications, the knowledge a person has acquired would matter. He told the students to give focus to Emotional Quotient as much as they give attention to Intelligent Quotient because in the future, one's EQ is more important than IQ.

"You all need to Cultivate a real positive mind and great mindset so that you can handle different situations and do something wonderful," he said.
