Absconding-pastor John Jebaraj has filed an anticipatory bail petition in the Madras High Court to avoid arrest in connection with a POCSO case against him. This comes just a day after the police issued a lookout notice for him and alerted all airports across the country.
In his petition, Jebaraj assured the court of his willingness to fully cooperate with the police investigation and to comply with any conditions set by the court for granting anticipatory bail.
Jebaraj, the pastor of Kings Generation Church on Cross Cut Road in Coimbatore, is well known, especially among the youth, for his unconventional songs and sermons. He went missing after being booked by the police for allegedly sexually assaulting two minor girls.
The alleged incident took place on May 21, 2024, at Jebaraj’s residence in G.N. Mills, where he hosted a party hosted. He has been booked for offences under Sections 9 (l) (m) (aggravated sexual assault) and 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In his bail plea, Jebaraj claimed that he has been falsely implicated by his estranged wife, a native of Coimbatore. He alleged that she and her family have used the minor girls to file the case against him. He has denied all charges.
Jebaraj also told the court that he would not leave the country without its permission and would cooperate fully with the police inquiry. He has also requested access to the details of the FIR filed against him.
