To make vehicular movement at the roundabout of the 50-year-old Avinashi flyover easier, the State Highways Department is in plans to expand it and also improve the connecting roads in the 4 directions at a total cost of Rs. 20 crore.
The old flyover was built 50 years ago, and it connects Avinashi Road, Brook Bond Road, Mill Road and Goods Shed Road. Over the years, the vehicle movement via it has increased greatly, and with the completion of the new 10.1 km Avinashi Flyover, more vehicles are expected to come from this part to Uppilipalayam via this old flyover to reach others parts of the city. The flow could also increase during rainy days as the underpass would not be much convenient for everyone at such times.
Keeping in mind of this, the highways department has planned to expand it. A Detailed Project Report for the expansion has received approval from the Government. A report by Dinakaran states that preliminary works related to this expansion have commenced. Land Survey works have been kick-started. Once it is over, tender will be floated and major works will rapidly take off.
The roundabout alone will be expanded at a cost of Rs.5 crore will all the other 4 connecting roads will be renovated, each to a distance of 5 km, at a cost of Rs.15 crore.
