Team Mechrose from SNS College of Technology, Coimbatore and Team Mech Marvels from Knowledge Institute of Technology, Salem secured the overall championship titles in the Electric Bike Design Challenge 2025 (Season 5), hosted by Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Pachapalayam, Coimbatore.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, Coimbatore part of SNR Sons Charitable trust organized a four-day national level Electric Bike Design Challenge from September 23 to 26, 2025, with eighteen teams representing the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh. The contest featured two categories, 1kW and 2kW electric bikesnamely Alpha and Beta categories

The event comprised static evaluations of vehicle design, innovation, and business models, along with dynamic tests such as braking performance, acceleration, maneuverability, autocross, hill climbing, and endurance trials.

The valedictory ceremony, was held on September 26 at 6.00 p.m. in the open-air auditorium, was graced by renowned personalities. The Chief Guest, Dr. C. S. Nanda Kumar, Program Head – Electrical and Hybrid Systems, Bosch Global Software Systems, Coimbatore, emphasized the importance of research and innovation in sustainable mobility.

The Guest of Honour, Dinesh Sivasamy, Mechanical Engineering alumnus (2008–2012 batch) , Senior Manager at Amazon, United States of America, highlighted the value of interdisciplinary skills and global exposure.

The function was presided over by R. Sundar, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, Coimbatore, who congratulated all the participants for their enthusiasm, perseverance, and innovative thinking. He encouraged the young engineers to continue pushing the boundaries of technology, innovate responsibly, and contribute to sustainable and smart mobility solutions.

Sundar also commended the students and faculty of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology for their meticulous planning and execution of the four-day event, motivating all attendees to strive for excellence in their academic and professional pursuits.

Special recognitions included the Dr. Radhakrishnan Best Faculty Advisor Award presented to M. M.Abinav of Sri Easwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore. The Best Male Driver Award was awarded to R.Maneesh of SNS College of Technology, Coimbatore, and the Best Female Driver Award to Ms. V.Sanmitha. of St. Joseph’s College of Engineering, Chennai.

The overall championship in the 1kW category was won by Team Mech Marvels from Knowledge Institute of Technology, Salem, received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.40,000. The overall championship in the 2kW category was claimed by Team Mechrose from SNS College of Technology, Coimbatore, with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.50,000.

The four-day national event wasplanned, organized andexecuted by the students and faculty members of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology.
