Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar IAS launched Coimbatore Super Smashers (CSS), the city's very own Pickle ball team on Saturday at the first edition of Coimbatore Pickleball Open here in the presence of R.Sundar, Managing Trustee; V.Ramakrishna, Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust and other special guests.

CSS is the city first professional pickleball team which is also a part of the Global Sports League. The Coimbatore Pickleball Open, taking place at the Clubhouse in Trichy Road, is Tamil Nadu’s first Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) 200 Tournament organized by Coimbatore Super Smashers.

A PWR 200 tournament denotes tournaments that are held at regional level, where multiple clubs from various cities clash to receive more points and reach higher stages. This tournament has been divided into 10 categories that will allow players of different skill levels and age to participate. 

According to Rithika, one of the lead organizers, some of the prominent players in the pickleball circuit in India are a part of this event. Players from Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolktatta, MP, Mumbai - it is a national level event. You win this tournament, it gives you 200 that adds to the world pickleball ranking score which is why we have over 300+ participants participating in 10 categories in this debut edition of Coimbatore Pickleball Open, which is also a DUPR-ranked event, she said.

This tournament is recognized by the Indian Pickleball Association, and officials from the association will oversee it to ensure PWR ranking compliance for open categories. The winners will be announced on Sunday evening.

R.Sundar, while welcoming the gathering shared to the gathering that SNR Sons Trust has always supported sports, be it TNPL (Cricket), INRC (Car Rally), Equestrians League or the rising global sports sensation Pickleball.

He congratulated Arjun and Rithika, two of the young brains behind Coimbatore Pickleball Open, the venue partner, sponsors and volunteers. He expressed that this event has become a grand success because of team effort and love for pickleball. He thanked District Collector Pavankumar IAS for being a part of this momentous occasion for pickleball in the city. 

Speaking at the event, Pavankumar IAS congratulated SNR Sons Charitable Trust for nurturing and supporting talents in sports. "Coimbatore Pickleball Open will give a great push to the sport in Coimbatore and will expose the city to it," he opined. He also wished the new team to put Coimbatore in the national and international map of pickleball. 

During the press conference, Sundar shared that Coimbatore Super Smashers is a franchise team and it will represent Coimbatore in a premier pickleball league similar to IPL. 

Arjun added that Coimbatore Super Smashers as a team will have some of the best Pickleball players in the world. It will have a mix of Indian and international talents, who will compete with 9 other Indian-city based franchise teams, that will fight for the championship.

The player auction is set to be held in Mumbai on September 2025, and the league will take place between December 16 and 23rd. SNR Sons Charitable Trust will back Coimbatore Super Smashers.
