More than 50 % of Indian population directly and indirectly dependent on the agriculture sector. Hence, agricultural economy of the country and farmers income should be increased by following of Prime Minister’s seven-point strategies and Agriculture 4.0, said Tamil Nadu’s Governor R.N.Ravi on Friday at TNAU’s International Millets Conference. 

 

As part of this International Millets Conference, an interactive meeting on empowering the Farmer Producers Organizations (FPOs) towards excellence was also organized. R.N.Ravi participated in the meeting and interacted with the members of FPOs. The Governor outlined the schemes of the Indian Government to achieve the status of Developed India.


Speaking at the event, the Governor said that the Indian Govt., is implementing formation of 10,000 FPOs for improving their socio-economic status, through State Governments.

 

According to him, the FPOs should have robust supply chain management skills, coordination, bargaining power, democratic way of functioning, legal compliance, participatory approaches, timely tapping of right market, collective planning, sharing of resources and strong leaderships so that they can move towards excellence,

 

Earlier, V.Geethalakshmi, Vice Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University welcomed the gathering.
More than 1000 participants which include members of FPOs, progressive farmers, entrepreneurs and scientists were benefitted from this program.
