3 researchers from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) invented Nano Herbicide (Nano Emulsion-based Botanical Herbicide and its Preparation Method) and received a patent for the same with a validity of 20 years recently.
The inventors of Nano Herbicide, Dr. N. Swathika, Dr. K S Subramanian and Dr. S. Marimuthu received the patent.
“This is the outcome of the Doctoral students’ research work carried out at the Centre for Agricultural Nanotechnology for the development of a novel form of herbicide using naturally produced allelopathic chemicals derived from Eucalyptus citriodora,” the University said via a press release.
“The product was developed using two-step process involving high pressure homogenization and ultra sonication. This bio-nano-herbicide has both pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicidal action against a notorious grassy weed Echinochloacrusgalli,” the University added.
