Take a good note of these numbers 265 A and 266 A - these are the numbers of the pillars in Avinashi Road (for the flyover project) that will soon bear the sayings 'உண்மையின் தூண்கள்' - 'Pillars of Truth' and 'வாய்மையே வெல்லும்' - 'Truth Alone Triumphs' if the orders of the Madras High Court are the duly followed, and they may become significant monuments in the city celebrating Truth.
What's behind this?
The 10.1 km Avinashi Flyover has several up and down ramps for vehicle on the main carriageway to enter and exit it at required points. The ramps are being built near GD Naidu Museum, PRS Grounds, Nava India , PSG Tech, Fun Mall, before GRG College Stop, CIT College and Aravind Eye - PSG CAS.
The pillars near GD museum, Fun Mall, Nava India are half way done while the ones near to GRG, CIT College and PSG CAS and PSG Tech are nearing completion. But the one near PRS Grounds was stalled midway due to a legal case at Madras HC filed by a landowner named Kavitha.
Pillars were erected at the stretch closer to PRS Grounds, and as per plans 1 pillar (265A) was to be erected near Kavitha, the petitioner's land while another pillar (266A) should be installed at the entrance of an extremely popular hotel called The Residency Towers, and another pillar (267A) was to come close to the mid section of the hotel. All pillars should have a set-distance from one another, and it should not be compromised.
However, the plan was changed (allegedly in the favor the hotel) and in addition to establishing Pillar 265A at Kavitha's land, another pillar 266A too was raised close to her land, which is not as per the original plan. This made her take the matter to the court. Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy heard the arguments of the two sides, and then ordered demolishing the pillars that were constructed without having the right amount of set-distance. He noted that constructing pillars at improper distance between one another may lead to unexpected risks.
Hence the pillars in dispute will be demolished and they will be re-established, this time at right intervals, and they will have the markings - 'உண்மையின் தூண்கள்' - 'Pillars of Truth' and 'வாய்மையே வெல்லும்' - Truth alone Triumphs.
Now that the orders have been passed in this case, the works at the stalled ramp is expected to resume. Once the pillars are marked with those sayings, that spot at pillars 265A and 266A could become a symbolic monument of truth and justice.
Work at Hope College Area going steady
Steel girders have been placed on the pillars at Hope College stop. 1 out of the 2 massive gaps at Hope college area has been bridged using the girders, the other section will soon be bridged.
Public Works and Highways Minister E.V.Velu recently told reporters that the works will be completed by August 15th. However, ramp-related works, service road related works may take some more time to complete.
