The 28km Neelambur Bypass, also known as L&T Bypass comes under the jurisdiction of both Coimbatore City and District Police Departments. 7.71 km portion of this bypass (from Chinthaamani Pudhur Toll plaza to a site near Jallikattu event ground)  is under the City Police while the rest of it comes under the District Police.

Between the period of 1.7.2024 and 30.6.2025, more than 170 persons got injured while 37 persons died due to accidents at the bypass, according to a report.  Out of the total reported accidents, 122 accidents happened at the 20 km-stretch of the bypass under the District Police, injuring 143 and claiming 33 lives within this period.

The issue with this bypass is that it is a 2-laned, narrow road with lots of trucks and heavy vehicles travelling on it day and night. The NHAI has taken this road from the hands of L&T earlier this year. It is set to be expanded into a 6-lane road .

According to a Highways Department official, preparatory works are going for the expansion, and the work is expected to commence soon. Motorists and the public want the authorities to not delay the expansion any further and urge them to begin it as quick as possible.
